They're working in state very hard already. It's said to be the best year ever for D1 players in the state.

Ron, I watched the scrimmage against DB last year and I don't remember this kid standing out. I had been reading on some of the Vol boards that this was imminent. Do you think he is a legitimate D1 Receiver?

I thought Tyler would be good. But! He was better than I thought he would ever be.

Tyler Maples is close to 6'2 175lbs. He runs a legit 4.47
He has very good moves. He is very elusive. He scored 25 touchdowns by receiving, intercepion returns, punt returns and kickoff returns. That picture of him above is him taking a slant 25 yards to the house against a very fast Alcoa team.

Tyler needs to get stronger though. He will need a redshirt year.

Re: UT offers Maryville wide receiver Tyler Maples

UT has offered several local kids from the Knoxville area.

    Harrison Smith Catholic
    Rae Sykes Alcoa
Kyrus Lankster Alcoa He is #4 in pic above
    Anthony Anderson Austin East

Sykes is a 6'4 defensive end. He is very good. Not as good as Warren but pretty darn good.

    Lankster is a speedy receiver.

Anderson is a kid that can fly. He will probably play secondary in college.

Harrison Smith could be one heck of a strong safety. I compare him to the Notre Dame Strong Safety last year. Harrison is 6'2 215lbs.

From what I hear about Maples the UT Coaching Staff wants him as a free safety.

Smith is my favorite player so far in the class of 07
